Pieter De Poortere
Pieter De Poortere studied illustration at Sint-Lucas, Ghent. He works as a freelance illustrator and comics artist, and has published in several magazines, e.g. Focus Knack, Humo, Zone 5300, Ferraille Illustré, and Fluide Glacial. His first Boerke book ('Dickie') was one of the most striking comic debuts of 2001, winning him the Cartoonists' Medal for the best Dutch-language comic of the year. In the summer of 2004 a selection of Dickie stories have been published in the French newspaper Le Monde. Boerke 4 was his last title published by Bries, since then Boerke has been published by Oog&Blik, and in France by Glénat.
In 2007 De Poortere created a new character, Joe de Eskimo. Around the same time he developed the character 'Hendrik', a friendly ghost, for het Huis van Alijn. Hendrik was later on picked up by publisher Lannoo.
