Benjamin Demeyere is a multifaceted artist. His work includes paintings, drawings, short films (check them out here) and assemblages. He finds inspiration in fairytales, stories and songs by writers like Jacques Prévert, Boris Vian and Adamo. However, his work is all but illustrative: stories are rather taken as a point of departure. Scraps, photographs and postcards or fleamarket treasures form the basis of his inventive and absurd creations. All of them demonstrate his eye for colour, pattern and subtle humor.
Since 1996, Demeyere installs an exhibition every two years at the Black Panter gallery in Antwerp. A day during one of these formed the inspiration for his book Fire!
Demeyere occasionally publishes books in small printruns under his own label, Roydanvers.
Benjamin co-founded The Bries Space in February 2011 with Bries-publisher Ria Schulpen.
