Hendrik Dorgathen is an illustrator, a comic artist, an animator and a graphic designer. He studied communication design in Essen. Illustrations of his appeared in Die Zeit, Frankfurter Allgemeiner Zeitung-magazine and The New York Times.
The album Spacedog was responsible for Dorgathen’s international breakthrough as a comic artist. In 1994 he rightly received the Max und Moritz award for best German comic artist at the international comic festival in Erlangen. Slow, a collection of short stories, was published by Edition Moderne in 2008.
Since 2003 Dorgathen teaches art and design at the Kunsthochschule in Kassel.
