Serge Baeken is een veelzijdige grafische huurling met oneindige goesting. Hij studeerde tekenen, grafiek, beeldhouwen, muziek, gitaar, Latijn en antieke cultuur, kunst en vrije grafiek. Van klassieke technieken tot computerprogramma’s: elk medium zet hij naar zijn hand.

Baeken verzorgde opdrachten voor Penthouse Comix, VPRO, Marc Didden, BBL, TRIX, King-kong, Mekanik, Trends en de Tijd. Voor NRC en Knack trok hij als grafisch reporter naar China. Meermaals assisteerde hij zijn al even veelzijdige broer Vitalski. Hij nam deel aan talrijke expo’s (o.a. in de Warande, La Rocca). Tijdens intensieve workshops bracht hij anderen de fijne kneepjes van het vak bij.

Baekens eerste en grootste liefde blijft echter het artistieke beeldverhaal. Bij Bries verschenen  het bekroonde debuut The No Stories (2005) en de 24-uren-strip ZZZ (2007).). Bloemlezingen van Baekens tekentalent verschenen bij Xtra in Prefab: 4444 Schetsen: Bird t/m Zoo en Shuffle.

Serge Baeken is a tireless and multitalented graphic mercenary. He studied drawing, graphic art, sculpture, music, guitar, Latin and antique culture, art and printing. From classic techniques to computer programs: he gets the most out of every medium.

Baeken worked for diverse clients in the media, press and culture. He travelled to China as a graphic reporter. He contributed to and organized several exhibitions and taught others about the tricks of drawing in intensive workshops.

Baekens first and most profound love will always be the graphic novel. Bries published his prizewinning debut The No Stories (2005) and the 24-hour-comic ZZZ (2007). Some of Baeken’s sketches and prints can be admired in the compilations Prefab: 4444 Schetsen: Bird t/m Zoo and Shuffle (Xtra).
