Stefano Ricci was born in
1966 in Bologna. He currently lives in Hamburg. His drawings
and comics have appeared in books and magazines both in Italy
and abroad (Frigidaire, Per Lui, Dolce
Vita, Avvenimenti, Extra, Linea d' Ombra,
Il Manifesto, Esquire, Panorama,
Teléma, HP, Glamour, Follow
Me, Bang!, Libération, Les Inrockuptibles,
Internazionale, Alias, Télérama,
Lo Straniero, L'Humanité, La
Repubblica, Mondadori, Rizzoli, Einaudi,
Salani, E. Elle, L'Ancora, etc).

(Mano ed. and Fréon éd., 1999) and Blackdepot/02
(Bries ed., 2002) are catalogs of selected works spanning
his first fifteen years of activity. In 1989 he published
his first illustrated book, Dottori (Metrolibri),
which was followed by Ostaggi nello spazio (Salani,
1994), Don Giovanni (Salani, 1995, shortlisted for
the BIB, Bratislava Illustration Biennale), Il magnifico
libro del Signor Tutto (E. Elle, 1995) and Lamioche
(Edition Demoures, 1999). In comics, in addition to some short
works, he has published Tufo, with story by Philippe
De Pierpont (Granata Press, 1994; Strapazin #34,
1995; Amok, 1996, Ed. Sinsentido/ Semana Negra, 2002). Again
in collaboration with Ph. de Pierpont, in 1995 he produced
Nina et Lili for the collective book Avoir 20
ans en l'an 2000 (Ed. Autrement; Mano #1, 1996).
For Glamour magazine he created Anita, with
story by Gabriella Giandelli, which was subsequently published
in Volume (Kappa ed. e Fréon éd., 1998;
Ed. Sinsentido, 1999; avant-verlag, 2001). For the collective
book Algérie, la douleur et le mal (Amok/BD
BOUM, 1998) he wrote and illustrated Safia Yacef.
A preview of his forthcoming serialised book Identikit,
with story by Valerio Evangelisti, appeared in Black
(#1, 2001) and Bang! (#3, 2003). Souviens-moi,
a preview of his forthcoming serialised book, appeared in
L'Humanité (n.18131,2002).
Through his chosen medium
of drawing he has also worked in theatre, dance and the cinema.
Since 1994 he has been putting his name to coordinated image
projects and book series, which have earned him a mention
in the ADI, Design Index 2000 and a shortlisting for the 2001
Compasso d'Oro award. Since 1995, in collaboration with Giovanna
Anceschi, he has been publishing the Edizioni Grafiche
di Squadro (Bologna) book series and curating the related
gallery activities; in 1996 they founded the magazine MANO
fumetti scritti disegni. Since 2003, he has been the
art director of the Bianco e Nero magazine for the
Centro Sperimentale di Cinema-tografia of Rome and teaches
comics and contemporary gra-phics at the D.A.M.S. Gorizia,
Università degli Studi di Udine.
